Quail manure

Quail manure has different uses. As organic compost, feed for pigs, steers and fish.

An example is the feed for pigs and steers detailed below (for one ton):

400k of dry quail manure.

300k of palmaste cake.

150k of rice flour.

150k molasses.

The necessary facilities of the productive plan

For the choice of the place where the laying quail will be raised, all the characteristics of temperature, lighting, humidity and hygiene mentioned above will be considered, remembering that the reflection of sunlight stimulates the fixation of calcium in the eggs. At all times it is necessary to have electricity and a good source of drinking water to cover the physiological needs of the birds and the cleaning of sheds and equipment.

Sheds should be built in dry, well-drained areas protected from strong wind currents in the winter. The ideal construction of a shed should have a baseboard or concrete block wall with a minimum height of 60 to 80 cm, on which the 1.20 m wooden posts or “perlings” are placed, for a total height of 1.80m from the floor to the floor. The dirt floor can be caked and used in this way, but the most appropriate thing is to make it a layer of concrete 5 to 6 cm thick to make it durable and hygienic. The most recommended roofing material is corrugated zinc, but other products such as clay tiles, fiber cement, etc. can be used. a gable roof is preferable for greater protection from rain and wind. It is important to know that in cold climates 6 or 7 birds can be housed per square meter, while in hot climates they should have a density of 5 quails per square meter.

It should be added that constructions that had another use and can be adapted to this upbringing can also be used, such as rooms, sheds or sheds (see Annex No. 5 for shed examples).

The cages should be made of a resistant material such as steel and galvanized iron. The trellis is vertical, and a spring activated door is located at the front that allows the birds to be handled comfortably. The floor of the same is a metal grate that has a slope of 1% to ensure that the eggs slide to the outer support of each compartment. The cage floor racks should not be less than 10cm apart, but they should not be much wider either because the animals could be injured.

The measurements of the cages are standardized so that they can be located one on top of the other like batteries. We can take as an example the Boc Lanango Cage that complies with SENASA sanitary regulations and IRAM material standards: each cage houses twenty laying birds, with two spring-loaded swing doors, high-impact feeder and armored drinking spout with black anti-algae tubing. The drinking spouts are inserted between the horizontal wires at the back of each cage. The Boc cage is a freestanding module 61cm front to bottom, 49cm wide and 25cm high. 6 cages are assembled on a 25cm base, reaching a total height of 1.
